Kantha Workshop

Today several members had a chance to learn about Kantha embroidery with Rubina Porter MBE. Ruby had brought several pieces with her that she had sourced in Bangladesh to demonstrate what can be achieved. The basic stitch is a running stich and we were amazed by the complexity of the designs that could be obtained from just that one stitch.

                                                      Then we set to work

Some of us chose an elephant design

some a tiger

and others fish

Please excuse the state of the photos but we were working on silk which was hard to photograph.

Afterwards we had a chance to purchase some of the goods produced by Ruby's charity workshop at Sreepur Village in Bangladesh

and admire more of the handiwork.
